Prayers for Recovery - Refuah Shlemah

If you have a name you would like to add to Congregation Beth El's Mi Sh'bayrach (prayers for healing) list, please send an email to Rabbi Roston's assistant, Cheryl Slutzky in our office, cslutzky@bethelnj.org. The name will be added to our daily prayers for healing. If possible, please also include the person's Hebrew name.

If a loved one is in the hospital or recovering at home and would like a visit from Rabbi Roston or our Congregational Nurse, Karen Frank, please contact Cheryl Slutzky at the above email or call her at 973-763-0111. Chevra Kadisha - Holy Burial Society

Beth El’s Chevra Kadisha is an organization of volunteer lay members and synagogue professionals dedicated to assisting congregants and their families at the time of death and bereavement. Its mission is founded upon the traditional Jewish mitzvot of k’vod hamet (honoring the dead) and nichum ha-aveilim (comforting the mourners). Beth El’s Chevra Kadisha is committed to making the following services available to Beth El members and families:

- Help to make funeral arrangements in consultation with Beth El’s clergy and local funeral homes
- Perform tahara (ritual purification of the deceased)
- Perform sh’mira (watching over the deceased until the time of burial)
- Help to arrange condolence meals for the mourners; be available for support as needed
- Help to ensure that a minyan (prayer quorum) and sh’lichei tzibbor (service leaders) are present at the local house of mourning for all evening services during the period of shiva (the week of mourning)

Our Chevra Kadisha is equally committed to educating Beth El’s members about Jewish laws and customs relating to death and bereavement, and the merits of calling upon the Chevra Kadisha in time of need.
